Hi Mark!
… or other lovely people from PennEngineering.
First of all, thank you for taking the time to look at my work! Based on the job description and the notes I’ve received, I think I’d be a great fit for the Senior UX/UI Designer position. I figured I’d save you some time and point you to the items that might be more important to you.
6+ years’ experience as a design lead
9+ years’ experience in manufacturing companies (NOV and LyondellBasell)
Love to get into the code (React, HTML, CSS) and fix the UI myself - saving developers’ precious time
7+ years’ experience working with burgeoning software teams
I’ve added a relevant project below (NOV store redesign) that has been removed from my main portfolio site.
A note: most of my work that’s strictly UX-related (for Key Lime/federal agency and LyondellBasell) has been confidential. I either can’t show any of it, or have to remove the actual data, and whitewash it before it’s on my portfolio. As such, the amount of content is a little light for the experience I have.
NOV store redesign
The Downhole Tools group within NOV had created their own online store. They had backend developers work on it, with no front-end design or user workflow consideration. They asked for my help, and I was able to get into the code and make the changes myself within a couple of days. I was only allowed to change the CSS, so I was a bit limited in what could be done. In the before pictures, there’s a lot of emphasis on non-actionable items (such as table headers with a red background, and items that looked like buttons but weren’t).

Design system
Initiated and participated in Design System creation for federal agency. Spearheaded and created the bulk of the Design System for LyondellBasell, incorporating WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards. Saved an estimated $2.8M annually in developer and design time.
Representing AI
During my time at LyondellBasell, much of the focus was building products that were machine learning and AI-focused. I learned that many of the engineers using our products wanted to know exactly how formulas were calculated, where the data came from, etc., and was able to visualize that information for them.
